"... .the right side of my brain 'woke up' in 2003 and demanded equal time with what had been given to the left side, the logical, numerical, organizational side that belonged to my mechanical engineering career."

David was born in Somerset, Kentucky in 1961. His family moved frequently, and he finished at Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee from where he graduated in 1979. David earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, in December 1986, then worked in the construction industry for the next twenty years.

In October of 2003 David attended the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough. Even though he had lived only 20 minutes from Jonesborough when he was in high school, this was his first exposure to storytelling. He fell in love with the art of telling stories. As a result he has attended all of the National Festivals in Jonesborough since 2003, as well as numerous other festivals, events and workshops including the Williamsburg Storytelling Festival, LAUGHS in Williamsburg, VA and the Virginia Storytelling Alliance's "Gathering." He is currently a student in the Storytelling Master of Arts program at East Tennessee State University.

David says he thinks the right side of his brain "woke up" in 2003 and demanded equal time with what had been given to the left side, the logical, numerical, organizational side that belonged to his mechanical engineering career. As he pursued storytelling, he also discovered the art of clowning. In an effort to learn the art of clowning, he has attended Circus Magic Convention, Tom E Boy's Clown Boot Camp and Peachy Keene's Peachy U. He was a very active member of his Virginia Beach Clown Alley Jubilee Jesters and is interested in starting an East Tennessee Clown Alley. He is also the Clowns of America International Ambassador to the country of Bhutan. Clowning under the name of Dilly-Dally, he performs at local events in Jonesborough. He is a volunteer at both Johnson City Medical Center and Northside Hospital where he makes clown rounds as Dr. Dilly-Dally. He is also an accomplished balloon artist and can twist many balloon sculptures.

David will complete his studies at ETSU in May 2009. He became a Performing Member of the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild in October 2008. He tells regularly at The Cranberry Thistle and has performed in the Special Events of The Unicoi Strawberry Festival, Mountain Makins Festival, Johnson County Fair and the inaugural Pumpkin Festival in Mountain City in 2008 and 2009. He can be booked for storytelling, clowning or balloon sculpting by contacting him at (757) 340-8972.
