Charlie was born in Virginia, raised in Utah, he learned about storytelling listening to his
father tell of his adventurers and misadventures growing up in eastern North Carolina.
At twelve he won a speech competition; he did not appreciate this talent for many
decades. As a young Marine he spent a year in Vietnam where he learned about
Vietnamese legends that he uses in his telling. His greatest fan has been his daughter
who grew up with and still enjoys listening to the stories of his adventurers.
In the fall of 2016, he went to the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, and recognized
storytelling is one of his gifts. At the Festival Conferences he learned about storytelling
from the professional storytellers telling at the festival. He has told stories at the Story
Crossroads Summit and Festival, Clearfield Story Festival, The Weber State Storytelling
Festival, local venues and Stories ‘N More, Jonesborough Storytelling Center.
Story Tellers and story friends in the west told him about ETSU’s quality story program.
He came to ETSU to take classes, earn a degree in storytelling, and to be near The
International Storytelling Center.
Charlie likes telling Family Stories, Folktales, Legends, Spooky tales and Historic
Stories. You might laugh at Charlie’s interpretation of the characters and his expressive
story presentation. He spends his time hiking, biking, studying history,
communication, storytelling, getting on stage and sharing the stories he creates.
Charlie has won several Story competitions and is delighted to be a Performing
Member of the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild.
